DESIGN X RI Clambake event

The RE hosted the first Clambake of the year with presentations of two amazing designers from Rhode Island who shared their knowledge, design process, experience and impact.

WORKSHOP #1 VISIBLE MENDING

21st NOVEMBER, 2019

We run a fun and family-friendly workshop that brought ideas, skills, and techniques on how to mend. As an alternative to buying new things, we like to see mending/ repair as a way to be creative, have fun, and bring the community together before the holidays. Participants had the opportunity to learn about the aesthetics of repair, mending, and repair techniques to transform our everyday clothes that require repair.

OPENING EVENT

21st OCTOBER, 2019

At the opening of The Repair Atelier, people came and engaged in turning alternative objects into pieces of percussion instruments. To commemorate the opening of the atelier, we were screening fragments of the documentary film Landfill Harmonics, (Directed by Graham Townsley, Brad Allgood)  featuring The Recycled Orchestra of Cateura,  Paraguayan children that play musical instruments that are repurposed out of garbage straight from the landfill. Casey Belisle and his father performed a percussion session with discarded items and we had everyone join in the drumming for a special session.
