The Repair

According with the principles of Repair the (for 20 years) abandoned space was carefully repaired- yet not renovated. The ceiling which had serious water damage from years of deferred maintenance was repaired by Scott of Roland W Bacon & sons Inc as a piece of Visible Repair.

The Past

The Chapel was built in 1855 as Sunday School, ten years later lengthened to its current size, it later became a Church and then redecorated in 1958- a Community Library and Choir. For the last aprox. 20 years the building was unused.

A few enthusiastic ladies of the Church started a Sunday School for St. John's in rented rooms. It proved so successful that the Vestry put up a small wooden building back of the Church in 1827 both for the use of the School and for the monthly lectures that were a feature of Church life in that era. The wooden structure was replaced by an Upjohn stone Chapel in 1855, and this was lengthened ten years later to make the superbly proportioned building which still stands, east of the Church.”
